Cynicism by definition is an inclination to believe that the motivation of other individuals or entities is purely self motivated and not in the best interest of the whole.
This obstacle is one of the biggest leaps in providing case care management for various government funded grants and community based assistance programs to the population at large.
Case Scenario 1
Migrant farm worker finds himself with little to no income during the off season. Hence, this worker and family of three that live on a yearly income of less than $23,000 a year is now finding it difficult to manage due the increase in their cost of living. Therefore, this migrant worker and family are searching for ways to supplement their loss of income until the farming season returns. 1) Unaware of the resources available. 2) Fearful of reprucussions of asking for government assistance due to urban legends. Consequently, prefers to not ask for aid and struggle.
Case Scenario 2
A senior citizen couple whom has worked all their life & are finding it difficult to live off Social Security alone, decide to only ask for the bare minimum of resources 1) Fearful that their secured income may become affected 2) That their asset holdings could become part of a spend down at the time of their deceased.
Both of these scenarios express the stigma that government assistance of the past has ideally distorted the meaning of becoming a public charge. Rather than to be caught in the systematic malfunction of administrative errors the only proactive disposition we do take, then we affirm current position of self sufficiency. One in which we must conclude that as self sufficient individuals we can not permit the obstacle’s of the unknown’s to dictate the possible opportunities of self improvement & of self sufficiency .
